John Mellencamp and Former Supermodel Wife Divorcing After 18 Years of Marriage

(HMG Celebrity News) – Joining the crush of celebrities over the holidays, sealing or breaking the bonds of matrimony is singer John Mellencamp, who is ending his marriage of 18 years and 20 years together.  John and his wife, Elaine Mellencamp, a former supermodel, have split, although his rep isn’t saying if they’ve filed divorce papers yet. Their spokesman said in a statement on Thursday:

“John and Elaine Mellencamp are proud of their 20 years together and are very happy with their accomplishments both as parents and as a family. They will continue to raise their two children in Indiana but have decided to call it a day as a couple.”

No further details were available. This is Mellencamp’s third marriage.

Under the stage name John Cougar, Mellencamp, 59, gained fame in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a folk rocker, with hits including “Hurts So Good” and “Jack and Diane.” His wife Elaine, 41, whose maiden name is Irwin, met the singer when she was hired to appear on the cover of his “Whenever We Wanted” album. They were engaged 10 weeks later and married the next year.
