Theatre Actors Call For Spider-Man Musical To End
(HMG Celebrity News) – The $65 million Broadway spectacle ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’ is facing some dark odds of continuing, after the fourth medical mishap to mar the show occurred Monday. Spider-Man” stunt man Christopher Tierney, was badly hurt when he fell 30 ft. and suffered cracked ribs and other internal injuries. Tierney, 32, reportedly underwent back surgery Wednesday. The producers of the Broadway spectacle announced Wednesday they agreed with federal and state worker-safety authorities to cancel tonight’s show while they implement new safety protocols. The show is currently under investigation by both the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the New York state Department of Labor. Meanwhile Theater actors are also stepping up the pressure to end the production. Rent star Adam Pascal wrote on Facebook, “They should put Julie Taymor in jail for assault! … I hope [actor Christopher Tierney] is ok and sues the shit out of Julie, Bono, Edge and every other asshole who invested in that steaming pile of actor-crippling shit!” Tony-winning actress Alice Ripley said on Twitter, “Does someone have to die? Where is the line for the decision makers, I am curious. Spider-Man should be ashamed of itself. This is completely unacceptable and embarrassing to working actors everywhere.” It’s a tough situation for investors to walk away from however. I have seen calculations that it will take about 4 years of sold out shows, before the show even begins to make up its $65 million initial investment.
