James Franco admits life of crime, loves Julia Roberts

[HMG Celebrity News] – James Franco has a superb movie career, and some say he should expect an Oscar for his role in ’127 Hours.’ But James told ‘Actors Studio’ host James Lipton his first real career was in crime.

The 35-year old actor admitted he had a broad rebellious streak as a teen, and his current passion for acting was preceded by a gift for petty crime. At high-school he and his buddies would go shoplifting, then sell their swag to other students for cash.

“I guess my life of crime started by stealing cologne,” he reveals on the show. “We’d keep them in our gym locker, and we’d sell some from the lockers.”

But sometimes it wasn’t cologne; As a prank, James once emptied a cologne bottle and refilled it with his own urine – then sold that to a student.

“Just think how much someone could get for that on eBay!” was Lipton’s wry reaction.

Once school was over, James split his time between studying at UCLA and working at McDonald’s. And that’s where he found a novel way of exploring his craft.

“In the drive-through window I would practice accents,” he laughed.

And it paid off – Jim was in that recently-released junket of unleavened treacle called ‘Eat, Pray, Love,’ opposite Julia Roberts. But he’s not fond of the role, telling the other actors in the room;

“Don’t be in a movie you wouldn’t go and see.”

He then admitted he’d never seen the results, but his reason for doing the film was simple; “You don’t say no to Julia Roberts.”

The show airs tomorrow. If you’re a fan, what’s your reaction to this?…
