[HMG Celebrity News] – ‘Baywatch’ star, David Hasselhoff is widely admired for his ability to laugh at himself. And that show. But ‘The Hoff’ now has a new challenge – he’s to replace Simon Cowell as head judge on ‘Britain’s Got Talent.’

“David is very excited about the move,” an insider tells PopEater. “He’s in London over the holidays, going into theater and looking at apartments for when he moves there early next year.”

He’ll also be playing ‘Captain Hook’ in a London theater production of ‘Peter Pan,’ from tonight until the end of next month.

And the 58-year old will be in good hands – the Brits have always loved him and were the first to buy ‘Baywatch’ when he remade it, following NBC’s 1989 decision to kill after just one turgid season.

According to the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ Dave’s rebooted version is not only the most watched show in the world, with over 1.1-billion viewers, but his role as Producer has pushed his net worth to over $100-million.

And the new job as a ‘BGT’ judge should help end the rumors that Cowell fired him from ‘America’s Got Talent’ in favor of Howie Mandel. Insiders now claim Simon ‘had nothing to do with the firing,’ but thinks the Hoff is ideal for the British version instead.

“It’s a new start for David and he couldn’t be more excited,” a close friend explains. “His new reality show is bound to be a hit and now he’s returning to TV in the show that found Susan Boyle – What could be bigger than that?”
