Aretha Franklin thanks fans after successful surgery

(HMG Celebrity News) – Detroit soul singer Aretha Franklin has thanked her fans for their prayers after undergoing “highly successful” surgery. Franklin’s publicist said the medical procedure took place about 5 a.m. today at a Detroit hospital, although she refused to say which one. Fans of the singer, who has not said what she is being treated for, gathered on Wednesday afternoon, for a prayer vigil for Franklin, 68, held in front of the Spirit of Detroit in downtown Detroit.

In a statement released today to the Associated Press, the Queen of Soul says: “God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country.”

In November, she canceled all public appearances for six months “at the insistence” of her doctors.

A statement at the time from her publicist said she was “very anxious to get back on the road to perform for her fans”.
