Kardashian MasterCard Cancelled After Attorney General’s Criticism
(HMG Celebrity News) – Looks like that ‘Kardashian Kard’ wasn’t in the cards. A Minnesota lender on Monday halted sales of a prepaid debit card featuring an image of the Kardashian sisters (Kim, Khloe and Kourtney), after Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said the card carried “outrageous” fees that unfairly targeted financially unsophisticated young adults. The Kardashian sisters launched the prepaid debit MasterCard, less than three weeks ago.
Blumenthal goes on to say that the Kardashian family “is marketing a dangerous financial fantasy,” citing onerous fees and penalties and stating that his office would be seeking more details from the bank that issues the card.
“The card is filled with gotcha fees and charges, such as $99.95 annual fees, $7.95 monthly fees (after the first year), ATM withdrawal fees, bill pay fees, loading fees — and even charges for talking to a live operator at their service center and a card cancellation fee.”
Kardashian attorney Dennis Roach responded in the letter posted by TMZ saying:
“The Kardashians have worked extremely long and hard to create a positive public persona that appeals to everyone, particularly young adults. They have been successful in doing so because they are recognized as honest, ethical and fun-loving individuals who are kind and caring to others.
“Unfortunately the negative spotlight turned on the Kardashians as a result of the Attorney General’s comments and actions threatens everything for which they have worked.”
Bizarre response. The Kardashians put their name and faces behind a debit card that gouges young unsuspecting fans, and they criticize the Attorney General who is just trying to protect these consumers?
