(HMG Celebrity News) – Hollywood’s obsession with remakes shows no signs of fading, and Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh is now in talks to helm their latest reboot – A new take on the classic 60′s TV spy series, ‘The Man from U.N.C.L..E.’

The 47-year old Atlanta native is now talking to Warners about directing a film version of the classic show, which has been stuck in development hell since just after the ice age.  And Steve’s favorite writer, Scott Z. Burns [who wrote his 2009 thriller 'The Informant'] is Warner’s new choice to create the script.

The studio has been trying to get the movie made since the mid-90′s but the obstacles have been endless. ‘Fred Claus’ director David Dobkin was supposed to direct, but he quit and became a producer – which gives Steven his chance to shine.

And THR says that if Steve takes the job Warners want a whole new script – just to be sure the movie takes even longer.

For those too young to have witnessed this classic, NBC made 105 episodes of ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E,’ that ran from September 1964 until January 1968.  ‘James Bond’ creator, Ian Fleming helped develop the stories about US and Russian agents who try
to beat each other at spying, and it was a huge international hit.

Yes, NBC once made shows people watched – who knew??

With the current script doomed to deletion Steven and Scott [who co-wrote 'The Bourne Ultimatum'] will have to start from page one. So the movie is not due to even start filming until next fall. At least.

Meanwhile, Steven’s current day-job is shooting ‘Contagion,’ a thriller about a deadly disease that threatens the world, and the team of doctors [Matt Damon, Jude Law and Kate Winslett.] who have to save us from this oncoming doom.

Now who said life as a Hollywood golden boy wasn’t fun?…
