Randy and Evi Quaid skip court date – again

[HMG Celebrity News] – In a story that someone in Hollywood is almost certainly plotting to turn into a film, Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi have skipped a court date booked for today. And that makes four times they’ve now failed to appear.

The 60-year old Texan and his wife were set to be arraigned on charges of ‘Felony vandalism,’ rising from their arrest in September when they were accused of causing over $5,000 in damage to the guest-house of a home they once owned.

The Quaids are now seeking asylum in Canada, and Randy’s attorney. Robert Sanger told Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Donna Geck that Canadian authorities had confiscated Randy’s passport, and that’s why he didn’t appear.

But the Judge didn’t buy it –  She refused to schedule a new court date and the pair’s arrest warrants are still in effect.

“Mr. Quaid has had multiple occasions to appear on this matter, prior to his passport being taken,” Geck explained.

This repeated absence from court has also cost Randy and Evi over $1 million in forfeited bail. But their attorney believes Randy will face his responsibilities.

“This is something that’s become larger than life,” Sanger told the Huff Post. “Randy has been a significant actor. I’d like to see him get this taken care of.”

His client is due in a Canadian court to plead for asylum on November 23rd. It will be interesting to see if he keeps that date instead.

And Evi is still on probation for allegedly defrauding a Santa Barbara innkeeper in September, over a hotel bill of $10,000. The bill got paid, but she and Randy failed to appear in court – and that cost them another $40,000 in bail.

The case against Randy was squashed, but Evi got three years probation and community service.

As their defense, the Quaids have claimed they ran off to Canada to avoid a group they call ‘The Hollywood Star-whackers.’ Their story is that this group caused the deaths of David Carradine, Heath Ledger and others – and the Quaids think they may be next.

Neither of the two actor’s deaths was ever ruled as suspicious.

If this doesn’t end as a movie I’ll be amazed. But what’s your take on the Quaids and their claims?…
