Father of ‘Bachelorette’ Star Julien Hug, Says His Death Was A Suicide
(HMG Celebrity News) – As we previously reported no foul play was suspected in ‘Bachelorette’ contestant Julien Hug’s death, and being so healthy natural causes seemed a long shot. As it turns out Julien left his parents a letter explaining he was suffering from depression and felt suicide was the only way out. The son of prominent San Diego restaurateurs Bertrand and Denise Hug, was found dead along a scenic Southern California highway, in the remote Pinyon Pines area off Highway 74 in Riverside County, about 90 miles east of Los Angeles. Julien who vied for the heart of Jillian Harris on Season 5 of The Bachelorette in 2009, was living near Palm Springs and was on his way to help his family with their new restaurant Augusta Modern in Palm Desert when his cellphone went dead this past Monday. His parents also own the high-end restaurant, Mille Fleurs n Rancho Santa Fe, where Julien had been serving as host. After a missing person investigation was launched, a helicopter eventually “located Julien’s deceased body in a remote area that was inaccessible to ground personnel.” There is still no word yet on how he killed himself. Hug was eliminated during Episode 2 of The Bachelorette in May 2009, while Jake Pavelka, who got together with Julien for Habitat for Humanity in photo above, also got shot down by Jillian Harris, later in the season.

What is wrong with you people? The comment in your article, “also got shot down by Jillian Harris, later in the season” is tasteless and disgusting. Please re-write your comments to respect Julien and his family and friends. Where is your decency?
Sharon,
I too am disgusted by the things that are being written by tactless people who know absolutely nothing about anything.
Julien was very special in a way that will touch me forever.
He was so much more than a contestant on a reality show. That experience was not even remotely important or real: I speak firsthand. Producers have their say from the get-go and it SHOULD NOT EVEN BE MENTIONED IN RELATION TO THIS STORY. The show is a total joke and he knew that.
Furthermore, other contestants from his season, including Miss Jillian Harris, should not be quoted. Period.
As if recent events weren’t horrific enough, this is how he is depicted by the media? I am truly heartbroken and I appreciate your comment to this total disgrace to journalism.
Stephanie,
My sincere Condolences. Julien is such a beautiful man. His friend Tom Ulrich, who was qoted by the media stated, “WÑ–th аll thе wealth аnd privilege Julien hаd, I Ñаn’t imagine whу hе wουld take hÑ–Ñ• οwn life.” It’s so easy for people who do not suffer from depression to make that statement. They do not walk in these people’s shoes and therefore, cannot begin to understand the pain this disease causes. By Julien leaving his family a note, should bring some comfort to his family. I’ve dealt with families who have lost loved ones to suicide. Many of the families didn’t know their loved one was suffering and didn’t know why they committed suicide. It brings such heartache to families and so many unanswered questions.
RIP Julien! You will be forever loved!
