James Cameron hires ‘Bionic Woman’ scribe for ‘Fantastic Voyage’

[HMG Celebrity News] – Not content with ruining another great film by remaking it with Justin Bieber, Hollywood’s next great idea for possibly spoiling your memories comes in Avatar director James Cameron’s plans to remake Fantastic Voyage.

The 56-year old Canadian-born director is now in meetings with Avatar writer, Laeta Kalogridis as the pair debate how to rewrite and update the story of the 1966 classic film.

And Kalogridis has a strong record of writing. Unfortunately it’s not the good kind; The 45-year old scribe wrote Angelina Jolie’s 2004 snooze-fest ‘Alexander’ and won a Razzie Award for worst screenplay. She also wrote NBC’s 2007 remake of ‘The Bionic Woman’ — which was canceled after eight shows.

James has been trying to get a remake of ‘Voyage’ started for the last 13-years, but was distracted by his big love — Avatar. And THR says Kalogridis is the no less than the fourth writer to have attempted the challenging script.

For those rare souls who have not savored the original blend, ‘Fantastic Voyage’ is the tale of a team of scientists who are placed in small submarine, shrunken to the size of atoms, then injected into the body of another scientist to save his life.

And it has all the hallmarks of greatness — Shaky sets, wooden acting, cheap effects and terrible music. The thing is a feast!

The new version is planned to be made in 3D, and 20th Century Fox has been stalled in pre-production since 2007. The arrival of Kalogridis should now loosen the log-jam and we’ll update you when new details arrive…
