Glee GQ Photos Blasted by PTC as Bordering on Pedophilia (Update)

GQ Glee(HMG Celebrity News) – A conservative watchdog group is blasting “Glee” for its sexy GQ magazine cover story and photo shoot, which will probably end up boosting sales for the issue.

The Parents Television Council says the spread featuring Lea Michele, Dianna Agron and Cory Monteith, in which the two female cast members pose provocatively in school settings, “borders on pedophilia.”

“It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on ‘Glee’ in this way,” reads a statement from the council.

“By authorizing this kind of near-pornographic display, the creators of the program have established their intentions on the show’s direction. And it isn’t good for families … “

“Unfortunately, it seems ‘Glee’ is only masquerading as family show and is far from appropriate for young viewers.”

Of course Michele and Agron are both 24 years old and Cory is even older, so the logic seems to be they play kids on TV, so the kids who watch them also think they’re kids, which has some rationale.

GQ editor-in-chief Jim Nelson responded to the PTC flap with this statement:

“As often happens in Hollywood, these ‘kids’ are in their twenties. Cory Monteith is almost 30! I think they’re old enough to do what they want.”

What do you think do the photos here sexualize young women to an unnecessary degree?

Update: Dianna Agron wrote a careful apology for Glee‘s racy GQ photoshoot on her blog: “If you are hurt or these photos make you uncomfortable, it was never our intention. And if your eight-year-old has a copy of our GQ cover in hand, again I am sorry. But I would have to ask, how on earth did it get there? These aren’t photos I am going to frame and put on my desk, but hey, nor are any of the photos I take for magazines. Those are all characters we’ve played for this crazy job, one that I love and am so fortunate to have, each and every day. If you asked me for my dream photo shoot, I’d be in a treehouse, in a wild costume, war-paint and I’d be playing with my pet dragon.”
