Johnny Depp courts ‘Pirates’ director for ‘Thin Man’ remake

Thethinmanposter[HMG Celebrity News] – Johnny Depp is among the most versatile and talented actors currently on screen, and with Pirates of the Caribbean now in the final days of production he’s already preparing his next role. And he wants Pirates’ director, Rob Marshall on board.

Rob directed the glamorous musical, ‘Chicago’ to six Oscars in 2002, and now Johnny wants him in charge of his next movie role as Nick Charles, in a remake of the classic 1934 thriller, ‘The Thin Man.’

Originally adapted from the novel by Dashiell Hammett, the film tells the story of Nick Charles played by William Powell, who marries a wealthy, young socialite played by Myrna Loy, and retires from his day-job as a private detective to be her full-time trophy husband. They then encounter a murder and solve it — just for fun.

The film was so successful it inspired five sequels.

The remake does not even have a script ready yet, but Johnny is keen to start work. He’ll be producing the movie himself through his ‘Infinitum Nihil’ production company, which is run by his sister, Christi Dembrowski, and is set up at Warners.

But there could be a snag — THR says  once Rob has completed Pirates IV he’s due to meet with the suits at Universal about directing a movie version of the Broadway hit musical ‘Wicked.’

Loosely based on ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ the show has been playing on Broadway for seven years – to sell-out crowds. So the desire to make a movie while it’s hot is intense! It has a script and several big-name directors want the job, so Rob would be crazy to pass.

And that’s where we are — Johnny’s always in demand, but he’s so eager to keep busy he might hit a brick wall with this film. If you’re a fan – and who isn’t – what’s your view on this?…
