President Obama to get his Greek geek on with Mythbusters
[HMG Celebrity News] – In what may be the first instance of a reality show displaying a single grain of IQ or talent, no less than President Obama is now booked to appear on Discovery’s ‘Mythbusters’ show to dispel a Greek legend.
In about 212 B.C the Greek mathematician, Archimedes is said to have destroyed invading Roman ships by using mirrors to focus the sun’s rays on the wooden vessels until they caught fire. The President finds that hard to believe, so he and the show’s hosts, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman have set themselves a challenge to disprove it.
And it’s been tried before — In 2006 a group of students from MIT used 127 one-foot square mirrors to make a fishing boat catch fire in San Francisco. But the tiny fire took almost ten minutes to start — with the boat sitting still.
The two hosts later suggested that Archie and friends must have used flaming arrows — which were a popular choice of weapon at the time.
“Fans are constantly asking the MythBusters to re-test this tale,” said Discovery’s spokeswoman Katherine Nelson. And it was chosen because; “It provided the greatest opportunity to get students involved in science in the most real way.”
As part of his effort to ‘inspire young people to excel in math and science,’ the President will announce his new role at ‘Mythbuster-in-Chief’ during the White House science fair later today.
The show itself ‘Archimedes Solar Ray,’ will air on December 8th…
