Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller mulled as new Spartacus
[HMG Celebrity News] – As you know, Andy Whitfield was set to continue the title role in the Starz series ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand. ‘ But the recent return of his Non-Hodgkin Lyphoma has made him unavailable, and the producers are now eying Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller.
“The two main options were to close up shop or recast,” Spartacus exec-producer, Steven S. DeKnight said when the news broke. “I want to talk to Andy and find out how he feels. That’s important to us.”
After much deliberation, EW says Steven and his pals are recasting, and 38-year old English-born Miller is now choice #1.
But there are snags — Since Prison Break closed in May of last year Mr. Miller has rather dropped off the radar. And while two weeks with a trainer could fix it, he’s also not said to be at the level of ‘buff’ such a role would demand.
The Princeton grad [he has a Bachelor's in English Lit., earned in 1995] had also expressed a strong desire to quit acting and return to his first love — Screen-writing.
And while Wentworth’s recent appearance as Chris in the zombie/action movie “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” proves he can do action, it’s still hard to envision the soft-spoken author as the sweat-stained all-action hero of ‘Blood and Sand.’
But that is the prospect we’re faced with if ‘Sand’s producers stick to their current plans.

I like Wentworth Miller. He looks good doing action movies and he does have a fan following – but I still think NO ONE can be the REAL Spartacus after Andy. Create another character whose followers call him “Spartacus” and leave open the possibility (even if remote) that Andy could reunite for the Season 3 finale. That would be the best of both worlds – in my opinion.
When I head about the possible recast I was upset noone could ever take andy whitfields place but the only way i will watch spartacus is if you cast wentworth miller, he was the best on prison break.
Wentworth is sooooooooooooooooooooooo talented & brilliant.He’ll be awesome on this role

I would love that Spartacus season 2 have Wentworth Miller. I mean, I love Andy he is a great actor, but if he cannot work for now and everybody is asking for Spartacus, who would be better than Miller… Both actors can act for sure!!! Both have personality, and both are great looking, so please get Miller for Spartacus!!!!
Sorry he is simply not my cup of tea. I realize he can act but I just cannot see him in that role at all.I’ve never liked him in anything I have seen him in either. He would also have to go through a complete body overhaul too and quick! I just wish so bad there was a way to just wait for Andy but I realize there isn’t. It’s just such a tough situation. I have never connected quite so well with an actor in a TV role. I’ve never adored an actor so much in a portrayl. He made that character so special and for me no one else can fit the bill. I will continue to watch the show but the magic will probably be gone for me I am afraid.

They should do want david chase did with the Sopranos and close down the set for a year and wait for Andy to come back.
What Companies should be doing for tv series is to have their main cast under go a full physical and genetic test, so if there series were to continue for a few years then the show will go on.
I dont think Miller is a good choice. Being Spartacus is not just about the acting, it is also physically looking the part. Miller doesn’t have it in him to be the nearly nude star and do fight scences as well as Andy. He would stand out like a sore thumb next to all the other gladiator actors. Producers need to look else where. He just wont be able to bring whats needed for this type of role.

Really he’s so talented actor.I’m so sorry for Andy and I also hope he recovers soon.but now wentworth miller is the best choice & i’m sure he can be successful like ever.

I just want to say that Wentworth was outstanding on his role as a boxer on THE HUMAN STAIN.
His performance was so emotional & great,though this movie didn’t get the success which deserved.His shape was very good as a boxer not as other peolpe say he doesn’t fit this kind of roles!!!
I don’t know Andy & I’ve never seen any of his roles I’ve never seen this show but I saw the old movie only.
I pray & wish for Andy to be well & get back to his job on other shows or movies,but I can’t blame the production company about their decession to move on.
I mean even Andy_God Willing_ will be well,it’ll take time to recover & it’ll take time to relax & stay without working till completely recoverment.
This is business..there’s people work on these shows &their life depends on its income.
So whether Went gets this role or another actor it’s not his fault.

I love Wentworth, but I just can’t see him as Spartacus ….. in fact, I can’t see anyone but GORGEOUS, AMAZING, TERRIFIC Andy as Spartacus, but that is sadly not going to happen
Closest look alike to Andy? David Beckham! Seriously, I think they need an unkown Aussie or Brit for the role. That’s the only way it’s going to work.
EXACTLY! This is a no-brainer cause Any’s character woulr go back to Thrace to rebuild his life anyway. If Wentworth is a new character who rebels against the Romans and is given the title of Spartacus then I’m in. Otherwise — forget it.
Oh good no! I understand that girls love the guy, but he would ruin Spartacus and not only with his sloppy body. I would be happy to be proven wrong, but I just can’t see that guy be as authentical as a Spartacus as Andy was. He plays his roles always the same way. He wasn”t Chris Redfield in Resident Evil, he was Michael Scofield all over again. Spartacus has already broken out of his prison, there is no need for Scofield to take his place.
My heart breaks at the thought that Andy might be sick again. I agree that Andy is irreplaceable. I am a Wentworth Miller fan, but I can’t imagine him in this role. There is an actor named Michael Graziadei that could be Andy’s younger brother in terms of resemblance. I often wished, with the back story that was coming up, that he would be cast as a Spartacus family member. If he were a bit older, he might have been a good stand-in for Andy, until his return. I still look forward to seeing how the show develops, but this is sad news indeed.
I’m all for this casting. I’m also for Andy coming back after he’s recovered. So, the idea of Went coming on as a new gladiator who gets dubbed Spartacus in Andy’s stead, then Andy coming back sounds great to me. What some people don’t know about Went is, he did study martial arts for a long time, so he does know how to fight, also he played a boxer in The Human Stain, so again… he’s got that fighting style down as well. So he can take on the physicality of the role if he’s given enough time to bulk up, I think he could do it if he really hunkerd down and laid of the Starbucks and the chocolate cake, which he’s known for having a weakness for.
I love Wentworth. He is one of the most talented actors. He’s got a great figure too. He just need some trainer that’s all. I am confident he will fit in this role if he gets it.
