T.I. andwife Tameka Cottle[HMG Celebrity News] — Rap music has a bad reputation in the non-musical media, but rapper, TI has balanced that somewhat by talking a suicidal man down from a building.

The man, who has not yet been named had climbed 400 Colony Square, a 22-story building in mid-town Atlanta and was threatening to jump. T.I was on his way to a music video shoot and heard about the crisis on local radio station ‘V-103,’ which is housed in that building. And he decided to get involved.

“Something in me just said, ‘Man you gotta try and help. You gotta do whatever you can,’” the singer told local reporters.

Police then taped a video message from TI, and once the suicidal man saw it he agreed to come down — if they could meet. The pair chatted for five minutes, then the man was escorted to Grady Memorial Hospital for tests.

“I told him it ain’t that bad. It’ll get better. And to put the time and effort into making it better,” the Huff Post quotes TI as saying. “I know it looks bad right now, but it can turn around.”

The 30-year old Atlanta native, who was born as plain ‘Clifford Harris’ says the man just appeared to be “beat up by life.” The police have since said the man will not face any charges.

“He didn’t have to stop. He could’ve kept going about his business,” James Polite of the Atlanta PD told the press about TI’s involvement. “But we’re happy it ended the way it did, and we thank him.”

And TI needs to get in good with the cops — He’s on probation after serving a year in jail on weapons charges, and has a court date on Friday after Ecstasy pills were found by police when they pulled his SUV over in Los Angeles on September 1st.

If he loses the case he goes back to jail, so we’ll keep you advised how that goes…
