Los Angeles porn industry struck by new HIV scare after adult performer tests positive for virus
(HMG News) – A yet unnamed Los Angeles porn star has tested positive for HIV, forcing two adult entertainment companies to shut down and scramble to find other actors who may have been infected. The diagnosis has the California adult film industry reeling, and all exposed partners to the individual who tested positive for HIV will be immediately quarantined. Wicked Pictures and Vivid Entertainment have stopped production. The actor’s name hasn’t been released, and he or she was a patient at the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation known as AIM. Nine porn stars have been treated at the clinic since an outbreak in 2004, which forced a temporary shutdown of production of adult movies when male porn star Darren James contracted HIV. In recent months, James has become an advocate of mandatory use of condoms on porn sets to protect performers from HIV. Porn stars must test negative for HIV and other STDs within 30 days of performing on film, but the common lack of condom use puts actors at much greater risk. Last year an adult film actress tested positive for the virus but no one else in the industry was infected.
