George Michael vanishes after escaping jail

[HMG Celebrity News] — Despite tasting freedom after four weeks in jail, singer George Michael confused reporters last night by leaving home before dawn and claiming he was heading to rehab.

The 47-year old double-Grammy winner spent his first day of freedom at home in North London with his partner, Kenny Goss. But George caught reporters off guard when he emerged around midnight, climbed into a car…and disappeared.

George told the crowd he was heading to rehab treatment at the nearby ‘Nightingale Clinic,’ where Amy Winehouse has been a patient. But Kenny denied it. Ninety-minutes later the car returned — but no George. And now no-one can find him.

But before disappearing George spoke to the crowd of reporters, and made it clear his days in jail are over.

“I want to beat my drug addiction and lead a normal life,” the Sun quotes him as saying. “I don’t want to end up back in prison, it’s a horrible place. You’re not considered a person, you’re a number — and that freaked me out. I’ve paid my time, and I want to get my life back on track.”

George served most of his four-week jail-time at the low-security Highpoint Jail, amid the glorious scenery of Suffolk. He also had to pay £2,162 in fines and is now banned from driving for five years.

Butwitnesses say George seemed ‘animated’ during the brief midnight meeting, and was slurring some of his words.

Kenny left the house again at about lunch-time, and when asked where George was he just said, “Relaxing.” But this came as news to George’s reps, who claim they’ve ‘no idea’ where he is and have been unable to contact him since last night.

“If he said he was going into rehab, we have no reason to disbelieve him,” says one source close to the star.
