Rick Springfield recalls almost ending life as a female baboon’s butt
[HMG Celebrity News] – Those who possess the creative gift often endure deep depression, and veteran rocker Rick Springfield admits he’s no exception. He once tried to take his own life for being too ugly.
Born in Sydney, Australia on August 23rd 1949 the now 61-year old artist looks back on a colorful life in his new memoir, ‘Late, Late at Night,’ and recalls the day in the 70′s when he decided to commit suicide.
Explaining that he felt “as ugly as the ass of a female baboon,” Rick tells how it happened;
“I made a noose, went to the garden shed, tied it around a rafter and stood on this chair…and kicked it away,” he says.
But the noose came undone and dumped Rick on the floor in a cloud of unkempt corduroy…And he decided that was ‘a sign’;
“That changed my life,” he writes. “I felt I was here for a reason. From this point on, music would become my salvation.”
And it did — Well, music, and soaps. Rick became part of Live Aid, and in 1981 he joined ‘General Hospital’ in a recurring role. He also released the song ‘Jessie’s Girl’ the same year, which lit up the charts and won him a Grammy.
But having suffered depression for years and also seeing the recent teen suicides, Rick has a message for young people in pain;
“I know what it’s like. You just want out. You want the pain to stop. Give yourself a year,” he says. “Your life will change. Nothing remains the same.”
Now a father of two, Rick is clearly relieved the rope broke and let him experience what’s happened since;
“I’m thankful for serendipitous moments in my life, where things could’ve gone the other way,” he explains. “Over all, life is what it is and regretting is a pointless thing.”
The whole story’s explained in 336 gripping pages, which you can find in the stores from today. Who plans to read it?…
