[HMG Celebrity News] – If you’re a fan of Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, the Dixie Chicks or Bruce Springsteen and you like reading, former Sony Music boss, Tommy Mottola is writing a book you’ll find hard to put down.

Born in 1949 among the unforgiving streets of the Bronx, Mottola is a 61-year old University dropout who chose music over books and got his break as the man who discovered Daryl Hall and John Oates back in ’75.

Their success got him noticed and in 1987 he was picked to run CBS Records. Then Sony bought the company and made Tommy the boss, and under his rule they became a Goliath — they bought the Beatles back-catalog and introduced music sales via MP3 downloads.

With him at the helm, Sony discovered and signed Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, the Dixie Chicks, Bruce Springsteen and several more stars. And now he’s decided to tell the whole tale.

“It’s time to tell his story,” a pal of Tom’s told the Post. “The music industry is virtually over. The days of star-making are done. Kids only want one song, not the album, and they don’t know or care who the artist is.”

In one chapter Tom who is rumored to have turned down the chance to be an American Idol judge, will recall how he blackmailed the Grammys to get Ricky Martin a spot on the show, telling producers,

“We’re going to pull everyone off the show unless Ricky gets to sing.”

And it worked.

But the book’s major dish is expected to be the tales of how he discovered, nurtured – and later married – Mariah Carey.

In 1988 Mariah was an unknown backing singer when Tommy was given her tape by a friend. Her vocal range blew his mind and he immediately signed her, and launched the media blitz that made her a star.

But their 1993 marriage flamed out in divorce in five years, and she repaid his hard work by signing an $80-million deal with Virgin instead.

Due to be modestly called ‘The Last Starmaker,’ Tom’s book is scheduled to debut in Spring 2012.

So, who wants to read it?…
