Entourage’s Carla Gugino joins Jim Carrey for Penguins
[HMG Celebrity News] – In a welcome return to the big screen for Jim Carrey it’s been announced that ‘Entourage’ star Carla Gugino will join Jim in the big-screen adaptation of the popular children’s 3rd-grade reader “Mr. Popper’s Penguins.”
First published in 1938 the book tells the story of a simple house-painter, Mr. Popper, who lives a quiet life with his family in the small town of Stillwater, but dreams of lands far away. One day a brave explorer sends Mr. Popper a gift of a Penguin. That bird then gets a girlfriend, and she lays an egg. Then nine more.
Now Mr. Popper has twelve mouths to feed…so what can he do?
Sadly, the story will be largely changed and updated before it hits the screen, but Variety says the overall theme will be how Mr. Popper ‘learns the value of family and friendship — human and otherwise.’ Carla, 39, will probably be cast as Jim’s wife.
The first possible threat to this movie’s success is the intended director — Mark Waters. This is the man who directed ‘Freaky Friday’ in 2003, and the 2004 pain-fest ‘Mean Girls’ — both of which starred Lindsay Lohan. And having these facts on your record does not inspire hope.
Mr. Popper is now in the early stages of pre-production and no writer or other cast have yet been announced. We’ll update you as new details arrive.
