Discovery Channel Sues Two Cast Members of ‘Deadliest Catch’
(HMG Celebrity News) – The Discovery Channel is suing two members of the cast of ‘The Deadliest Catch’, a show that follows the dangerous job of crab fishing, for $3 million dollars. Proving that the channel, which offers a ton of fascinating entertainment, is run more by greed than sense?
Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand are being sued for failing to complete the interviews for a special back in June called “Hillstranded”, which would have shown them having “adventures” not related to their job. The initial work was done, but the interviews for voice overs had to be completed.
But the brothers never showed up, and an email from the defendants lawyer asked that no further contact be made. So, according to Yahoo! News, Discovery filed a lawsuit for breach of contract.
OK, so, I realize that they didn’t finish the project, though the email and response to Discovery seems a bit like there is more going on to this than the channel is admitting.
But the response, asking for $3 million, is insane. Yes, these guys make more money than most commercial fishermen from having their show. But, as their attorney has pointed out, they have never made anywhere near $3 million. However, as the show with the highest rating on the network, ‘Deadliest Catch’ has brought in billions.
Just one of the executives behind the lawsuit reportedly made more than $3 million in one day this year…a day! So, in order to fulfill that amount of money, the sea captains would have to end their businesses. Which, by the way, would end the show.
So this move by Discovery seems way over the top.
I understand they didnt want to do a hour sitdown interview which is a breach of contract..but the Discoverychannel wouldnt be as rich as they have become if it werent for these men!! They need to rethink this ridiculous lawsuit of 3 million dollars to these men! If anything John & Andy should sue Discovery for invadeing their lives and paying them pennies for their hassels of having moremen to care for on Their boats!!I wont watch Discovery or buy anything they advertise again!!These men IF they choose to go to another channel..I will follow them wherever they go..Shame on YOU DISCOVERY CHANNEL!!!
Well I geuss the discovery channell is sick of John trying to be there freind and pushed him in the dirt LOL. Serves John right. I seen an episode where John pushed Kieth of the Wizard to the ground for asking him a simple question. And yelled at him QUIT trying to be my freind and smiled. Why because he was showing off in front of other captains. Well John Sig didnt smile Phil didnt smile and neither did Andy Hillstrand. I think you owe Keith an apology. I had an asshole co-worker treat me the same once I punched him in the head. And then he was wanting to be my freind. Serves you rite. Poor Andy thoe. Live up to the contract that is why I dont sign the damn things I dont want to have to do something unless I want to at a spur of the moment..
I think that this is totally wrong of the Discovery Chanel. Without all of the Captain’s they would have not had squat for a show. The Hillstrand’s along with Phil made their show what it is. I must also give credit to the other captain’s, but in reality, Phil & heart throb Johnathan are what get’s the rating’s. The Captain’s have signed a contract and I know personally are on the road a lot to fullfill their obligation’s. With Andy & Johnathan missing “Hillstranded”, I can understand the Discovery Chanel being very upset, but to go as far as sueing Andy & Johnathan, I think that is way over stepping their boundries. They have had a great relationship for year’s now, and to think this is the answer is totally horrible. This last year has been hard on everyone and it shows. Life is about more then just money and the Discovery Chanel I feel need’s to look back at all of the extra thing’s the Hillstrand’s have done during their time together and rethink the situation and try to come up with some kind of an agreement, but to sue them for 3 million is totally wrong. If they go thru with this, I know I for sure will never watch their chanel again. Life is about more then money! Poeple are human, give Andy & Johnathan a break… would they sue… NOT!
OMGosh, what are you thinking? Because Johnathan pushed someone down, you think that is reason for him and Andy to be sued? Wow. It is moment’s like thoes that show that the show is really real. That these are people with real life issues and moment’s. Nobody is perfect, and I am positive Johnathan did aologize. He is a very kind person. Maybe they didn’t show the apology, but I am sure it was done. The Hillstrand’s do not deserve to be sued, they are human and missed an interview. Life happen’s. Sorry for you, you were punched, but you can’t even compare your misshap to someone elses. And yes, they were all friends!
Something like this probably had to happen. The Crab Captains are a very independent bunch. If they were not, they would not be risking life and limb on the unforgiving Bering Sea. Now mix that with Discovery executives, where the most dangerous thing most of them have ever done was to drive home drunk. Captains must perform, burocrats must bullshit. Boy, talk about oil and water.
Burocrat – you will be at X at 12 noon on (date). Cap -oops, can’t make that, how about on (date)? Burocrat-you will be there when I tell you to be there. OOOOPPPPSSS, end of game, they probably told the xxxx hole burocrat where he or she could go in no uncertain terms. So now the burocrat must lie and sue to maintain “face”. I’ll show those hicks who is boss. It may have been one phone call, but now it will be multiple ongoing attempts to get the Captains to show up.
Discovery may get some money out of this, but they will lose a lot more. Sounds like Sig has thrown in with the brothers already, and it would not surprise me if more of the Captains did not join them. Even Keith, who was probably happy Jonathon only pushed him down instead of smashing in his face for the back door crap he was pulling.
Discover may have trouble filling the holes Sig and the Hillstrands will leave. Along with Phil, they were the biggest draws with an incredible competitive loyalty. They may fight with each other,but when an outsider turns on one of them, they immediately join together against this outside force. Good luck Discovery, you can never beat them no matter what you do. You will have reprecussions way beyond the amount of your lawsuit. Bad move.
