Lady Gaga to Join ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Main Rally (Video)
HMG Celebrity News) – Lady Gaga is stepping out of her meat outfit to step up her advocacy and public denunciation of the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. On Monday, Gaga will speak at an event in Maine organized by the Service Members Legal Defense Network, the 4the14k rally, where she’ll stand alongside veterans discharged because of the policy, which forbids military recruiters from asking about people’s sexual orientations and prohibits service members from revealing if they’re gay. The rally’s name ’4the14k’ refers to the 14,000 men and women discharged from the military under the DADT policy.
Gaga tweeted: “Meet me in Portland, Maine 2moro, 9/20 to help repeal #DADT. I’m holding a Rally + speaking live in Deering Oaks Park.” Lady Gaga recently called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to repeal the policy during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres. In a video she released online Friday, Gaga explained her position on the law and clarified her role as an activist and pop star. “I am here to be a voice for my generation, not the generation of the senators who are voting, but for the youth of this country, the generation that is affected by this law and whose children will be affected,” she said. In the clip, Gaga also addresses several senators by name — including Arizona Senator John McCain over his attempt to filibuster to block the measure.
