Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert launch dueling rallies

[HMG Celebrity News] – In what may be the most fitting rebuttal to Glenn Beck’s recent gathering, Comedy Central stars Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have announced their own rallies to restore this nation’s mental health.

Stewart, 47, announced plans for his October 30th assembly entitled ‘The Rally to Restore Sanity’ on last night’s show, describing as being for people ‘too busy with their normal lives to go to other political rallies.’

“We’re looking for people who think shouting is annoying,’ he explains on the rally’s new web site. “Who feel the loudest voices shouldn’t be the only ones that get heard. Think of it as Woodstock, but with the nudity and drugs replaced by respectful disagreement.”

Meanwhile, Colbert, 46, is planning the “March to Keep Fear Alive” on the same day for people with the opposite views, and is advising those who may wish to attend to bring ‘an overnight bag and five extra sets of underwear.’

“The United States is built on three principles: freedom, liberty and fear,’ Colbert explains on their site. “They want to replace our fear with reason. But ‘reason’ is just one letter away from ‘treason.’”

The pair have now filed a single application with the National Parks Service for a permit to host 25,000 people near the Washington Monument, but it has not yet been approved.

And Jon has a very direct view of the kind of audience his rally deserves;

“You may be asking yourself ‘Am I the right person for this rally?’” Stewart said on the show. “The fact that you would even ask that, as opposed to just grabbing the nearest stack of burnable holy books, strapping on a diaper and pointing your car towards D.C….that means you just might be right for it.”
