[HMG Celebrity News] – If you’re a fan of crime movies with an Italian theme, you’re in for a treat; Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro are developing a movie for Paramount Pictures, and Al Pacino and Joe Pesci want to part of the cast.

The movie ‘The Irishman’ concerns the unexplained disappearance of infamous ‘Teamsters’ union boss, Jimmy Hoffa in 1975, as told in the book on which it’s based by the man suspected by many to have been the cause of his death: Frank Sheeran.

The book also covers allegations of delivering bribes to President Nixon’s attorney, fixing a local election so Joe Biden would win, and many other dark acts.

Deadline says the film version is planned in a style similar to the 1995 crime classic, ‘Heat.’ Pacino and De Niro co-starred in that. De Niro also worked with Scorsese on Goodfellas, and won an Oscar with Martin in 1980 for ‘Raging Bull.’

Joe Pesci then joined De Niro and Scorsese for ‘Goodfellas,’ in 1990 — and he won an Oscar.

Even the writer’s a dream — 57-year old Fresno native Steve Zaillian has written ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,’ Russell Crowe’s ‘American Gangster,’ ‘Gangs of New York’ which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, the original ‘Mission: Impossible,’ movie, as well as ‘Clear and Present Danger’ and Steven Spielberg’s 1993 holocaust classic, ‘Schindler’s List.’

So you can see why some folks are excited.

There’s no firm news on the casting or a release date, as the script isn’t finished. But you can bet we’ll be keeping a close eye on this…
