Catherine Zeta Jones ‘furious’ at Michael Douglas diagnosis delay
[HMG Celebrity News] – In a sequel to yesterday’s story on Michael Douglas and his battle with cancer, his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones has now told reporters she’s ‘furious’ at the Doctors who failed to spot the disease.
Catherine, 40, who married Douglas in November 2000, said her 65-year old husband had complained of pain in his ears and throat for some time, but the walnut-size tumor was only found three weeks ago.
“It makes me furious they didn’t detect it earlier,” she told the Mail. “He sought every option and nothing was found.”
But Catherine wasn’t greatly surprised when the cause of Michael’s discomfort was finally found.
“It wasn’t a huge shock,” she recalled. ‘I knew something was up. He knew something was up.”
Mr. Douglas has since begun an intense eight-week course of chemotherapy and radiation, but the cancer is now at stage four – meaning it’s grown, and spread to his neck and other parts of his head. Which is far more dangerous.
But while Catherine is furious about his delayed diagnosis, her husband seems more understanding.
“It had been bothering me for a while. I went through a litany of doctors and tests,” he told Dave Letterman on Tuesday. “These things sometimes just don’t show up.”
Dave then asked if he thought the doctors had found the cancer earlier enough
“I sure as s*** hope so!” was the measured response.
Meanwhile, Catherine says that she and Michael have now broken the news to their two children, Dylan, aged ten, and seven-year old Carys. But she’s having a hard time watching her husband being weakened by the disease.
“I know I should be stronger, but the hardest part is seeing his fatigue, because Michael is never tired.”
Douglas has been given an 80% chance of recovery by his doctors. We’ll keep you advised how that goes…

My heart goes out to you Michael and Catherine. I am a cancer survivor. I was diagnoed with leukemia in 1997. I had a bone marrow transplant in June 1998. I am now cured. Catherine please do not be angry at the doctors. Sometimes things don’t show up in the early stages. Be there for Michael. God bless you and your family.
90% of all Head and Neck Cancer are diagnosed at Stage 4.
When following an aggressive treatment regime the cure is very high.
Dear Mr. Douglas:
6 years ago my mother then, 65 was detected with mouth cancer. After 18 hours of surgery she had everything removed buy her tongue. They had to take her teeth, gums, jaw bone and salivary glands. She has always been a dead ringer for Liz Taylor and it was extremely difficult, yet we had the most wonderful doctor who put her back together with graphting from the thigh and if you did not know it you can not detect the surgery. 6 years have come and gone and yesterday she was declared officially cured. She was also stage4 and had squamus cell cancer. She is my hero. I have taken care of her especially the first year and now I live with her and like I said she is my hero. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we know you will make it through this. Please tell your lovely wife it will be a difficult time in the beginning but it is a new journey in your lives and oh how much closer it will bring you, so much more than you already are. Our hearts go out to you. God Bless. Maureen and Gisela Kruppa God Bless
I was sitting with some friends over coffee, talking about Michael Douglas’ recent interview on Letterman of his Stage IV cancer diagnosis. And we agreed: he’s got an extremely good chance of a complete cure. The guy on my left said, “Yo, if Mike was here right now, know what I’d tell him? I’d say…hey man, you’ll kick the butt off the Big C..’cause you got THE SPARTACUS GENE!” All of us here on Union Square send you, “CZ” and the family our love, good vibes and healing energy.
