Rachael Taylor and Matthew Newton[HMG] – In an act that has strong links to Rihanna, Australian actress Rachael Taylor -  last seen as Maggie Madsen in ‘Transformers’ – has obtained a restraining order against her latest boyfriend.

Court documents say the 26-year old Tasmania-born actress won an ‘Apprehended Violence Order’ against boyfriend, Matthew Newton (photo right), accusing him of “unprovoked violent assaults.”

Taylor claims she suffered two serious attacks by Newton while they were on vacation in Rome early this month. In one, she apparently sustained facial injuries during a fight in a crowded hotel foyer.

Her lawyer’s presentation to the court says Taylor now “fears for her personal safety, well being and security” after these fights, and other alleged altercations back home in Australia.

“This action follows a series of gravely serious incidents, including two unprovoked violent assaults, which (she claims) occurred on August 13th and 14th, while Ms Taylor was in Rome,” say her lawyer’s notes to the court.

And just to make sure this new role as the victim gets her lots of attention, Rachel has since put out this statement;

“After much consideration and struggle I have made this personal decision to send a clear public message that violence, threats, abuse and intimidation are not acceptable, and should be dealt with by the full capacity of the law.”

As for the boyfriend, Matthew, 33, was booked to host the Australian version of ‘The X Factor’ this month. But he pulled out on Sunday, and has since entered rehab for the second time in four months.

The Sun says his last stay was on April 10, after he was accused of trashing a hotel room in Sydney, where he and Rachel were staying. The problem seems to be drink.

Matthew has so far made no comment on Rachael’s new legal moves. We’ll keep you advised…
