Piers Morgan CNN job hits immigration concerns

Piers Morgan[HMG] – When CNN announced Larry King was retiring, then chose ‘America’s Got Talent’ judge Piers Morgan as his replacement many people were shocked. But it seems the news channel’s plans could be coming unglued.

CNN planned to replace Larry with Piers by late October or early November. But as he’s British, Piers needs a visa to work in this country, and ‘America’s Got Talent’ uses most of the work days that visa allows.

And when he tried to get one that would let him take the CNN job, Piers, 45, hit a wall.

Rumors of an official announcement about Piers being the new host had been swirling for weeks, and while it’s not thought CNN have dropped him, it could take several months to get the new visa.

Meantime, they’ve asked Larry to stay until the end of the year. And he jumped at the chance.

Lawyers who specialize in Immigration say the type of visa Piers needs has become harder to get in the last year, as the government has tightened the rules regarding immigrant workers.

The 76-year old King told his audience last month that he planned to retire in the fall. But since the news broke about Piers, CNN are denying any idea of him leaving so soon;

“No date has been announced yet, and there’s nothing specific at this point,” a spokesman now tells the Post.

So that’s where we are — Piers was due to take over the show in 8-weeks, but the immigration department moves with the swiftness of lava and he could be blocked by the visa for weeks, if not months.

What’s your review of this news? If Piers gets the job, would you watch CNN?…
