Expert thinks misdiagnosis set Lindsay Lohan on downward cycle
(HMG) – So why did psychiatrists originally think Lindsay Lohan might be bipolar when they examined her before recommending 90 days of rehab, after her prison stint for a probation violation? It seems that people who unnecessarily take Adderall can display manic symptoms, and trigger a host of other problems. Dr. Joe Haraszti — a prominent L.A. addiction specialist, speaking with TMZ believes that Lindsay was misdiagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and says that people who take Adderall when they don’t need it can experience similar effects as people who use cocaine or methamphetamine. Dr. Joe Haraszti, also notes people on Adderal who shouldn’t be using it, “might then complain of insomnia and then take Ambien or other sleep aids to help fall asleep … it’s a vicious cycle.” Bottom line is by getting Lindsay off of Adderall it relieved a lot of her other symptoms and that’s why psychiatrists now believe 30 days is sufficient for her to complete her rehab. I understand the logic but given Lindsay has already been in rehab 2-3 times before isn’t there an underlying problem here on why she keeps getting hooked on drugs and or alcohol? And did a qualified doctor really think she had ADHD, or did Lindsay seek out and find someone to make that diagnosis in order to get the ‘legal highs’ she craved?
