Rooney Mara(HMG) – One of the most sought after roles in Hollywood right now is to play opposite James Bond star Daniel Craig, in the English-language remake of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”

The thriller directed by David Fincher (“Fight Club,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), based on the first novel in the best-selling series from the late Swedish author Stieg Larsson, Craig is taking on the role of journalist Mikael Blomkvist.

The violent story teams Blomkvist with the title character, Lisbeth Salander, a deeply troubled genius tormented by a terrible childhood, as they delve into the mystery of a missing girl whose disappearance leads them to a string of decades-old murders.  Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Ellen Page, Kristen Stewart, Carey Mulligan, Lea Seydoux, Sarah Snook and Sophie Lowe  were some of the many names mentioned to play Lisbeth Salander. But relative unknown actress Rooney Mara, has gotten the role.  What likely gave her the edge is that Rooney is also starring in Fincher’s upcoming movie about Facebook, “The Social Network” with Justin Timberlake.  Rooney has been gaining notice though appearing in the well-reviewed comedy “Youth in Revolt,” with Michael Cera, and in the remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street.”

The agreement Craig signed with Sony, reportedly includes options for two sequels — films to be based on the other books in the late Stieg Larsson’s bestselling trilogy, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets’ Nest.
