Justin Bieber[HMG] – When Paramount Pictures wanted a director for their new biopic on Justin Bieber, almost twenty top-flight names expressed a desire for the job. But Jon Chu, who directed Step Up 3D, was picked for the role and the movie’s already in play.

Justin’s concert early this week in Nashville has already provided backstage footage, and cameras will now follow the rest of his tour, ending at Madison Square Garden on August 31 — where the show will be filmed in 3D.

Paramount originally wanted Oscar winner, Davis Guggenheim — director of Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ — to be in charge, but he bailed out to focus instead on his new documentary. Jon has since released this statement about his new post;

When I was approached about doing Justin’s film, I jumped at the opportunity to tell a story with honesty and heart. His is a true underdog story, and I hope to tell it in a compelling, genuine way,” It reads. “This is the story of a new voice continuing the tradition of musicians that defined their generation.”

And 30-year old Jon is more than up to the job – A graduate of USC’s film school, his graduate film was so good the giant William Morris talent agency signed him the moment he left. And he now has a ‘First-look’ deal with none other than Steven Spielberg.

Justin’s debut on the big-screen doesn’t have a title as yet, but Paramount have scheduled it for release on February 11, 2011 — which just happens to be Valentine’s weekend.

So, will you go and see it?…
