Sandra Bullock demands removal from BP Gulf tape

[HMG] – It’s quite common for actors and celebrities to star in videos  that help those who have suffered calamity, but Sandra Bullock now wants to be removed from the one she made about BP’s Gulf Coast disaster.

The 46-year old actress is among many stars who appear in a video calling on Congress to allocate money to clean up the Gulf. But the group behind the campaign, ‘Women of the Storm’ lists a BP-funded foundation as a main sponsor on its site.

Now Sandra believes the whole thing is a ploy to use taxpayer’s money to pay BP’s bill — and she wants out.

Ms. Bullock was originally contacted to be a part of the PSA to promote awareness of the oil spill.” says a statement just released by her reps. “At no time was she aware that any oil company had influence over Women of the Storm or its message. We have immediately asked that her participation in the PSA be removed until the facts are determined.”

Women of the Storm lists ‘America’s Wetland Foundation’ as a major partner. But as DeSmogBlog reports, that foundation lists BP, Shell, Exxon-Mobil, Citgo, Chevron and other oil companies as their major sponsors.

‘Storm’s founder, Anne Milling, says the Foundation provided experts and data, but denies the video was funded by big oil.

Sandra is joined on the tape by a host of celebs, many of whom hail from the region – Dave Matthews, Harry Shearer, Blake Lively, Peyton Manning, Emeril Lagasse, Lenny Kravitz, John Goodman, Drew Brees and several others.

“What can you offer?” she asks in one scene. “Your voice. Speak up!”

The plan was to collect one-million signatures to make Congress pay for the clean-up. But in the two weeks since the video hit YouTube just 121,000 people have signed the petition.
