Heidi Montag files to divorce Spencer Pratt

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag[HMG] – In what may be the first time this pair have ever dealt in the truth, the divorce between Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt is now filed. They really are getting divorced…Allegedly.

The pair were married on April 25, 2009 at a church in Pasadena, and have been an unwelcome stain in the press ever since. But on June 8th, Heidi, 23, filed for separation, claiming the pair would divorce.

This was widely called out as another stunt for publicity, but Spencer — who is known as the ‘brains’ of the pair – insisted their break-up was real.

“We love each other, but I’m a fame-whore and I’ll never grow out of it,” he told People. “Heidi knows that and doesn’t want that. There’s no way my love of fame and her love of puppies will ever work out.”

Today, Heidi filed the divorce petition at Santa Monica’s Superior Court.

“Heidi has filed a petition for dissolution of marriage from Spencer Pratt,” says her lawyer, Jodeane Farrell. “The couple would like their divorce finalized soon, in an out-of-court settlement. Both parties are amicable, and agree on the possibility of finalizing the divorce.”

You can see why those who know them think this is a stunt — In January Heidi had ten plastic surgeries. A few weeks later she ‘fired’ Spencer as her manager. In April she threatened to sue an MTV producer for ‘sexual harassment,’ got yards of free press…and did nothing.

Next she tried acting, and got a small part in Adam Sandler’s ‘Just Go With It.’ That flopped. Today we’re told she’s focused on her music career – and wrote thirteen songs in one day.

Her debut album, ‘Superficial,’ was released as a download on January 11th, and its sales could not be worse if her fans were all Amish; It sold less than 2,000 copies worldwide in 8-weeks of release.

A divorce is among the most stressful, life-shredding events anyone can endure – Yet Heidi’s Twitter feed contains not one word about it. So is this story real, or just more desperate hype?

We’ll leave that for you to decide…
