Jim Carrey lands new role in ‘Pierre Pierre’
[HMG] – If you’re a fan of Sacha Baron Cohen, Jim Carrey, Seinfeld or ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ do we have a movie for you:
Larry Charles, who directed Sacha in both ‘Borat’ and ‘Bruno’ and worked as a writer with the other performers is now bringing Jim Carrey back to the screen, in the perfect showcase for his unique blend of physical shtick.
Entitled ‘Pierre, Pierre.’ the new comedy will star Jim as a Frenchman who has to get a valuable, stolen painting from Paris to London, engaging in truly obnoxious behavior en-route.
But the job’s been a long time in coming – The script, by unknown scribes Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton was sold two years ago for $1 million, with Carrey as the star and Jason Reitman [son of 'Ghostbusters' guru, Ivan] attached to direct.
Fox won the bidding. But then Jason quit the movie, and the bosses at Fox got new jobs. And that left the whole thing in limbo. At least, until now.
Today, Deadline says it’s breathing again — Now Larry has signed on, he and the producers can find a new studio who’ll let them make the film. And it shouldn’t be hard — the whole budget is just $20 million.
But this is not Jim’s only upcoming job — He, Sean Penn and Benecio Del Toro are now set to play the legendary Three Stooges, directed by no less than the Farrelly Brothers. Jim’s even planning to gain 40-pounds for his role as Larry.
But the Stooges are stalled — Their studio, MGM, is now almost bankrupt so the movie’s on hold until they find either new cash or new owners.
Jim has made some hugely popular films – Ace Ventura, The Mask, Liar-Liar, Dumb & Dumber…But when you consider that ‘Pierre’s entire budget is the same as his salary for ‘Liar, Liar’ alone, that does not look too good.
We’ll let you know as more details emerge…
