Police Sympathetic to Food Network Host Impicated in Murder for Hire Case
(HMG) – The case against former food network host Juan-Carlos Cruz, who is implicated in a murder for hire case against his wife, is a little more complicated then perhaps first presented. Cruz was accused of hiring 3 homeless guys to slash his wife’s throat with a pair of box cutters, which sounds pretty horrific. But TMZ reports, police and prosecutors have compassion for the couple, mostly because the wife and alleged victim Jennifer Campbell, is solidly supporting her husband. Apparently Campbell was suicidal (a mortal sin in her religion), over not being able to have a baby, so she and authorities believe Cruz was attempting to execute a murder/suicide out of mercy. Kind of ironic though that he would take his own life after taking her’s to avoid a mortal sin? Anyway, TMZ claims a plea bargain agreement could be reached before Tuesday’s hearing, where Cruz will plead no contest to solicitation of murder and the attempted murder charge will be dropped. The sentence for solicitation of murder is anywhere from 9 years in prison to probation, with the target in this case likely to be, 1 year in jail followed by probation.
