Amy Adams signs to portray Janis Joplin

Amy Adams[HMG] – The 60′s were a magical time for this country’s music — that single era produced more musical icons that any time since, and Janis Joplin is among the most loved. A biopic of her life has been brewing for years, and now Amy Adams has captured the role.

The list of actresses who have tried-out for the movie reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of odd – Pink, Courtney Love, Renee Zellweger and even the late Brittany Murphy. But apparently Amy is right for the part.

And despite no studio being willing to make it, a director has already been cast – Fernando Meirelles, who directed ‘City Of God,’ and Ralph Fiennes’ ‘The Constant Gardner’ from 2006 is reported by Deadline to have taken the job.

35-year old Amy is an odd choice for the role, to say the least. She was a princess in ‘Charmed’ and a put-upon blogger in ‘Julie and Julia’ with Meryl Streep — but now she has to play a scruffy, gravel-voiced heroin addict who died of an overdose in 1970 — while still eight years younger than Amy is now.

Some have even suggested Jane Krakowski from ’30 Rock’ for the role, as she once did a stunning tribute as ‘Jackie Jormp.’ Others say the movie will still not get made, and in five years you’ll see Lady Gaga being offered the part, to be supported by Muppets.

Janis’ short life was an often odd tale, so you’d expect that in any movie about her. But for me, regardless of star, this one is doomed – Folks your age don’t care about Janis, and those who do would rather rent this on Netflix. And that, I’d suggest is why there’s no studio yet – they won’t risk the money.

Be honest – would you watch this film? If so, who would you pick as Janis?…
