Sela Ward joins ‘CSI: NY’ cast replacing Melina Kanakaredes

(HMG) – CBS execs have introduced Golden Globe-winning actress Sela Ward, as the newest cast member of the network’s forensic crime procedural, CSI: NY.
“We are delighted to have Sela joining ‘CSI: NY,’” said series executive producer Pam Veasey. “With the exciting stories planned for Season 7, she’ll be a dynamic addition to the cast and the team.”
Ward, who is replacing departing star Melina Kanakaredes will play an experienced investigator from Washington, DC whose work is driven by her empathy for the victim, the network said in a statement. The character will join the NYPD as a new partner for Gary Sinise’s Det. Mac Taylor. Kanakaredes, who has starred as Det. Stella Bonasera for six seasons, announced Monday that she will depart the series. Ward’s credentials include a pair of Best Actress Emmy for her roles on the network dramas Sisters and Once and Again, as well as a recurring role on House, and Suburban Madness. Production for Season 7 of CSI: NY, to air in the fall starts July 28.
