Legendary NY Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner Has Passed Away

George Steinbrenner(HMG)—- The colorful and always vocal owner of the New York Yankees baseball team, George Steinbrenner, has died suddenly. Early reports say Steinbrenner passed away Tuesday morning, after reportedly suffering a massive heart attack in his Florida home Monday night. Steinbrenner had just celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4. He was pronounced dead in a Tampa, Florida hospital.  Steinbrenner has owned the Yankees since 1973, though his fragile health forced him to hand over day-to-day operations of the team to his sons Hal and Hank in 2007.  News of Steinbrenner’s death is a double shock for NY fans, who are morning the death of Yankee stadium announcer Bob Sheppard, who died Sunday at the age of 99.
