George Michael arrested after North London crash
[HMG] – In what is becoming a frequent occurrence, former WHAM star George Michael has been arrested after yet another example of unstable driving.
The 47-year old singer was arrested at 3.35am Sunday morning after crashing his $120,000 Range Rover into a 1-hour photo store in the ritzy neighborhood of Hampstead, near his home in Highgate, north London.
The local Police would only say that “A man in his 40′s was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive. He was taken to a north London police station and was later bailed to return on August 13, pending inquiries.’
His publicist is understandably reluctant to comment, but George did make a short statement;
“I want to apologize to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I’ll sort myself out,” he told reporters. “And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them.”
And this is George’s third major brush with the law in three years – In February 2006 he was cautioned by police for possession of a class-C drug, but was later released. In May 2007 he was found slumped over the wheel of his car at a 4-way junction in a north London suburb, and tests proved he was stoned.
He later admitted to smoking as many as 25 joints of cannabis a day, but claimed he had since ‘cut down’ to eight.
And last year — just after regaining his license – he was arrested again after crashing into a truck on a freeway in south-eastern England.
He’s also been arrested twice – February 26, 2006 and September 19, 2008 – for possession of drugs.
But his most famous brush with the law was on April 7th 1998, when he was arrested for ‘performing lewd acts’ in an L.A public restroom.
George is now free on bail and the case is proceeding. We’ll let you know what happens in August…
