More artists join Arizona boycott over immigration debacle
NEW ARTISTS JOIN THE SOUND STRIKE!!
[HMG] – The fight against Arizona’s new immigration law known as SB-1070 has, so far been peaceful, but while many people are upset by the rule, Rage Against the Machine front-man, Zack de la Roca has to be the most vocal.
In a career devoted to peaceful rebellion Zack’s latest campaign, ‘The Sound Strike’ has inspired more than 300 singers and bands to boycott Arizona, making Zack the most powerful voice now engaged in defeating what he sees as unjust persecution.
Those pledging to boycott the state until this law is revoked include Cypress Hill, Kanye West, Chris Rock, Nine Inch Nails, Maroon 5, Massive Attack, Sonic Youth, Ozomatli, Tenacious D and numerous others. And Zack’s not even warmed up.
“Fans of our music can be pulled over and harassed every day because they are brown or black, or for the way they speak,” he writes in the campaign’s latest press release. “People who are poor could be forced to live in fear while just doing what they can to survive.”
While many celebs claim they support worthy causes Zack’s commitment is clearly legit, as the release goes on to prove;
“Some of us grew up dealing with racial profiling, but this law takes it to a new low. If other states follow the direction of Arizona, we could be heading for a pre-civil rights reality.” he protests.
As part of their crusade to defeat the new rules, Zack and his group have raised a petition to demand that President Obama and his administration do whatever is needed to strike down this law.
“We as people have to intervene,” Zack told Raw. “That’s where the Sound Strike has come into play. It’s civil intervention by artists who don’t want to compromise the dignity of our brothers and sisters in Arizona who are suffering due to this kind of legislation.”
The state’s Governor, Jan Brewer, 65, is determined 1070 should stand. But the loss to Arizona’s economy from more than 300 major musicians refusing to play there could put her and her views under pressure.

all of these people boycotting Arizona probably haven’t taken the time to read SB1070; it’s only 10 pages. there’s nothing racist within this bill. educate yourself, read the bill, instead of being a bobble head, puppet or whatever you want to call it. the feds have done nothing to protect our country! Arizona, Jan Brewer is doing what is taking a stand for the protection of her State, as most of our local and federal governments have not. why don’t all of you go to Arizona, have Governor Jan Brewer take you on a tour. why should we continue to be burdened down with ILLEGAL immigration, mexico’s drug wars, drug trafficking, human trafficking, killing of American citizens, attacks on our Border Patrol Agents, our hospitals are suffering, our schools are suffering, etc. if you do not live in any of the border states, shut up! you are happy with lawlessness. you are asked for your ID anytime you shop, if you’re stopped by law enforcement you present your ID, what is wrong with all of you? doesn’t anyone read anymore? doesn’t anyone think anymore? this is mob mentality.
Just to let you know. they are not just asking for i.d – that’s not enough. They are asking for your citizenship papers. All brown people must carry them at all times, otherwise they will take you in until your family member brings your required papers. So it sucks if you’re brown.
Sandra is talking complete BS – another opponent who obviously hasn’t read the law, which clearly states that an Arizona driving license is entirely acceptable as proof. The bill also explicitly forbids racial profiling.
Zack is just leaping on the issue to try and restore his badly-flagging career: RatM haven’t been relevant, interesting or popular for a decade or longer.

where are you getting your information? why don’t take the time to read the law for yourself to see what it says. scientifically, we are different shades of brown. if you are citizen you have no reason to fear; however, if you are an illegally here, you should be concerned. ok think! have you ever traveled outside of the US??? you’d better have your papers. also, about 85% of illegal aliens are from south of the border. why don’t you go to mexico without your papers, go try to get a job, go to the hospital, demand your rights. just try it….

The intent, as it is written in the bill itself, is to discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of illegal aliens and economic activity by persons unlawfully present in the United States.
SB1070 is copied from the Federal Immigration Bill and has been in existence since the days of FDR. The Bill is administered, among other instances, when you are stopped for a traffic violation and the police officer requests you provide your license, registration and proof of insurance.
SB1070 is in place to protect American Citizens and Foreign Citizens of ALL Nationalities who are in the United States LEGALLY. get it LEGALLY!

You are so ignorant. I can’t even believe it. This law is unethical, unconstitutional, and an attack on our civil liberties.
Racial profiling in this country is wrong. And that’s what this law supports by giving law enforcement the right to suspect anyone of being undocumented. Obviously they’re going to make assumptions based on race… Obviously! Jan Brewer stated that the citizens of Arizona will have to trust law enforcement…. Um!? Hello?! That is so asinine to think this law will be carried out fairly. It’s wrong. Ever heard of the 14th Amendment?
