Project Runway’s Tim Gunn skewers Vogue’s Anna Wintour
[HMG] – In six years as the lynch-pin and de-facto star of Bravo’s ‘Project Runway,’ alongside Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn has seen many things But one highlight of his days in design was watching Vogue editor, Anna Wintour being lowered down the stairs.
Currently on a teaser tour for his new book -Â “Gunn’s Golden Rules: Life’s Little Lessons for Making It Work” the 56-year old maven shares stories of despotic divas that will your hair cringe, but his favorite tale concerns the 60-year old Vogue staffer’s behavior at a fashion show, held at New York’s Metropolitan Pavilion in 2006;
“I was with a colleague from Parsons, and we’d been discussing the ‘Will-she-or-won’t-she-take-the-elevator’ question,” Tim recalls. “So we ran over to the elevators to see if Anna would deign to get on. She wasn’t there. Then we looked over the stairway railing. And there was Anna, being carried down the stairs. The bodyguards had made a fireman’s lock and she was sitting on their crossed arms.”
The guards transported her down five flights like that…But would she ride them all the way to her car?
“I ran to the window to see if they’d put her down or carry her to the car. They carried her to the car. And I thought: ‘I will never forget this,’” says Tim.
And there’s more: Tim also dishes on another Vogue victim of unfettered ego — Editor-at-Large, Andre Talley. While preparing for a panel discussion at New York’s Public Library, everyone was required at a sound-check. But Andre was a no-show.
“When we return to the green room, we see Andre reclined in chair, with a translucent barber’s bib over his chest, and he’s being fed grapes and cubes of cheese one-by-one, like a bird.”
It should be no surprise that Anna has made no comment on Tim’s recollections, but a spokesman for Vogue has now told Page Six,
“Tim Gunn has a very vivid imagination. There is no truth to any of this.”
Can’t you just picture the diva herself, hovering over that under-paid minion, the pointed heel of her Manolo Blahniks poised at his ear as they gave the reporters this clearly scripted and desperate rebuff?
Personally, if Tim wrote a shopping list, I’d buy it in hardback. But this unmissable 216 pages of Grade-A dish comes out on September 7th…
