Michael Jackson’s mother marks loss with new book
[HMG] – Hard to believe though it is, Friday marks the one-year anniversary of Michael Jackson’s untimely death. And his mother, Katherine is slowly coming to terms with the loss.
In her new book, ‘Never Can Say Good Bye: The Katherine Jackson Story.’ the 80-year old tells her side of the story of this last, stressful year. Seasoned with never-before-seen photos of her superstar son, Katherine discusses how she hopes the book will ease the pain for his fans;
“I wanted to release a tribute to thank his fans for all their love and support,” Katherine says. “My son was misunderstood and this is my way to share what kind of person he really was.”
In the year since he died, Katherine says Michael’s children have shown their heritage in more ways than one;
“Paris has a way about her, and I see his talent in her. Prince is serious about a lot of things. He wants to be a cameraman or produce movies. And Blanket is very playful, like Michael was.”
But losing their father has still taken a toll; 12-year old Paris has since turned her bedroom into a shrine to her dad, and the two boys Prince, 13, and ‘Blanket’, who’s eight, talk about wanting to make him proud.
But all three lapse into silence when they miss him, and spend hours listening to his wide range of hits.
“They don’t have any friends or go to school, they have private lessons at home,” says Mamma Jackson. “But that will change in September, when they enroll in college. To them, it’s normal; It’s the life they’ve known. They have a certain time to go to bed, or to get dressed for lessons. They also practice karate and swim, which they love.”
The media made the three look like co-stars at a sideshow, but Katherine insists they’re perfectly normal; It was just Michael’s attempt to keep them all sane. He never told them he was famous, but at his 30th Anniversary show in 2001 the truth was soon clear;
“He didn’t want them walking around with egos,” Katherine explains. “The two little ones were in the audience, and when he got backstage they said, ‘You’re a big star! When I grow up, I want to be like you! Michael said that gave him the biggest chuckle.”
Katherine also hopes the new book will silence the malicious gossip that’s grown since he died;
“Michael was so misunderstood,” she says. “I treasure my memories of him and wanted to share them with his fans. He was so generous. I want the world to know the real Michael Jackson – a loving person.”
But Katherine says she still cannot accept her son died of natural causes;
“He was too young for that,” she insists. “I heard he was taking prescription drugs but I never saw my son drugged. If I could see him again, I’d want to know one thing, ‘Who did this to you?’”
Their last family gathering was at Michael’s favorite Indian restaurant — ‘Chakra’ – three weeks before he died. Now, those left behind are meeting on Friday at his grave in LA’s Forest Lawn Cemetery to find some closure after a year of pure stress.
“I hope the next year will be better for us all,” Katherine tells the author. “His death brought us closer and I want us to be even closer still. I know Michael would have wanted that.”
The book can be ordered from ‘JacksonSecretVault.com‘ – the family’s new social web-site devoted to their son and his work Proceeds will be divided between Katherine, the children and the ‘Voices Against Brain Cancer’ charity…
