Maura Tierney returning to TV after battle with breast cancer
(HMG) – Former ER star Maura Tierney is returning to TV, after recovering from emergency surgery to remove a breast tumor, last July. At the 44-year-old actress, who appeared in 10 seasons of the medical drama, said she has been assured that her condition is “very treatable”. However Tierney says: “I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed.” At the time Tierney was attempting a TV comeback last spring on NBC’s Parenthood, butwas forced to drop out because of the surgery, but her cancer is now in remission.
According to Entertainment Weekly sources, Tierney has formally signed on to star in ABC’s new legal drama The Whole Truth. She replaces Joely Richardson, who quit the project earlier this month so she could spend more time with her family. Tierney will play Kathryn Peale, a deputy bureau chief in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. Numb3rs‘ vet Rob Morrow costars as Kathryn’s primary opponent, rising criminal attorney Jimmy Brogan. In Truth, chronicles the building of a case from the perspective of both the defense and the prosecution.
