Did ‘American Idol’ fans get it right choosing DeWyze over Bowersox?

(HMG) – Is this another season where the American Idol winner will be overshadowed by their runner-up as they kick off their professional careers? America has spoken and the shy paint salesman from Illinois Lee DeWyze, 24, coming off a rousing performance of Joe Cocker’s “A Little Help from My Friends,” has won American Idol. won over the early favorite, Crystal Bowersox. This season, judges and Idol pundits have largely called Bowersox the more talented performer though DeWyze was Cowell’s favorite from the outset, and he seemed to capture the people’s hearts. The finale was dedicated to Simon Cowell, who will leave the show after this season to bring the UK show The X Factor to America. Cowell, dragged on stage shortly before the actual 2010 “American Idol” was announced, admitted to feeling emotional. All the past Idol winners (except David Cook) sang to Cowell. Former judge Paula Abdul returned to deliver a rambling tribute to him. Janet Jackson, Alice Cooper, Joe Cocker, Christina Aguilera, Alanis Morissette, Hall and Oates, the Bee Gees, and Carrie Underwood were among the performers during the show’s two-hour finale. Perhaps the biggest surprise (though some of the gossip rags got wind of it early) was Bret Michaels, who made a big entrance on the ‘American Idol’ finale, fresh off his ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ win, and several struggles with his health. The Poison frontman came on stage to sing ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’ with third-place finisher Casey James, to much applause.

Now, let me see if I get this right: If you’re good looking, male, can sing and/or play the guitar a little, not gay, and not a single mom, you might stand a chance of becoming the next American Idol! Hmmm. Seems that narrows down the chances for otherwise would-be talented contestants.
