NBC plans fadeout for Heroes
[HMG] – With Scrubs, Better Off Ted and even Law & Order apparently canceled, this is not a good day to be an NBC actor. But the fate of ‘Heroes’ is still up in the air.
Proving the peerless skills for blithering indecision for which they’re renowned, reports say NBC has so far decided to create a three-part finale for Heroes…or a 13-part series…or they might just kill it off. No-one’s sure.
The smart money is on the idea that NBC will order a ‘climactic finale’ for the four-year old show, consisting of two, perhaps even four shows played back-to-back over two-nights. And the most likely air-date for this is next fall.
“What it’s up against is that NBC’s new team is trying to re-brand the network and give it a fresh look with new shows from J.J. Abrams, Jerry Bruckheimer, and David E Kelley,” an insider tells Deadline. “Heroes’ doesn’t fit in, but it’s a big brand by itself.”
Heroes is, in fact, NBC’s best-selling show overseas, and moves truckloads of DVD’s every time one’s released. Sources say the show’s creator, Tim Kring, is now hoping the 13-episodes are ordered so he can tie up the stories, but that looks unlikely.
The series began on September 25, 2006. It’s attracted an average of 14.3-million viewers and won an Emmy, two ‘People’s Choice’ awards, a ‘Screen Actors Guild’ award and a BAFTA. It was also NBC’s only entry in the top 20 most watched programs for the entire 2007–2008 season.
So, of course they kill it off. I think that’s crazy — Anyone agree?…
