Former NFL star, Lawrence Taylor arrested for alleged rape of 15-yo girl

[HMG] – New York Giants’ legendary linebacker and former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant, Lawrence Taylor was arrested last night on suspicion of rape.

The NYPD has released a brief statement confirming the 51-year retired NFL star was taken into custody early this morning after so-far unconfirmed allegations were made of an incident involving a 15-year old girl at a Holiday Inn in the town of Suffern, in Rockland County, New York.  USA Today’s The Huddle reports that the 15-year-old was a runaway. A police supervisor said, “She was a runaway since March and there was a pimp involved. She got punched in the face. We’re not sure who did it.”

Investigations by local police are ongoing. If the claims can be proven Taylor faces charges of third-degree rape.

Should such charges arise this would not be Laurence’s first brush with the law. He admitted to drug use several times during his twelve years in football, and faced several suspensions for failing drug tests.

Since retiring from football in 1993 he’s been in jail three times for attempted drug use or possession, but has been clean since 1998. But on November 8, 2009 Laurence was arrested again in Miami’s Dade County for allegedly leaving the scene of a hit-and-run accident. He was released on a bond of $500.

Details of the case are currently sketchy, but police have just scheduled a news conference for 3pm Eastern and we’ll update this story as more details emerge…
