Alexander McQueen Suicide was Third Attempt and Fueled with Drugs
(HMG) – An inquest into the death of fashion designer Alexander McQueen found that the distraught designer downed a “substantial” amount of cocaine and sleeping pills and a small amount of tranquilizers before hanging himself on February 11—the eve of his mother’s funeral. According to his psychiatrist , Dr. Stephen Pereira, McQueen had mixed anxiety and depressive disorder and had attempted suicide by overdosing on drugs on two previous occasions in 2009.
“[McQueen] had a history of self-harm and, no doubt fueled by cocaine, he resorted to desperate measures to end his life,” London coroner Paul Knapman wrote Wednesday, adding that “the balance of his mind was disturbed.”
