After all the missed hearings, Randy Quaid free, wife gets probation
(HMG) – All is pretty much forgiven for Randy and Evi Quaid, who were free on $100,000 bail each, after being accused of skipping out on a more than $10,000 hotel bill at an exclusive Santa Barbara resort. They were facing three felonies: defrauding an innkeeper, burglary and conspiracy. Although they have since paid their outstanding bill, prosecutors say a crime was still committed. After being jailed for several hours this week for missing multiple hearings, Randy, 59, and Evi, 46, finally showed up punctually to court Wednesday for their felony case and met privately with the judge and lawyers in chambers, according to People Magazine.  Quaid’s wife Evi, took the slap on the hand, and will be on probation for three years after she pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of defrauding an innkeeper. She also will have to perform 240 hours of community service. Prosecutors had a strong circumstantial case against Randy Quaid, but his wife was more involved with the transactions in question so charges were dropped against the actor, Senior Deputy District Attorney Arnie Tolks said. “This is a very fair resolution of the matter,” said attorney Robert Sanger, who represents the couple. “The Quaids are pleased with the disposition.”
