(HMG) – A radical Muslim group has warned the creators of “South Park” that they could face violent retribution, because they “outright insulted” the  Prophet Muhammad. Revolution Muslim, a New-York based Islamic group, issued a stern warning on its website (now taken down) to the creators of the Comedy Central cartoon South Park following an episode that portrayed the Prophet Muhammad in a bear costume, while showing traditional images of other religious leaders.

The New York-based website is known for postings in support of jihad, or holy war, against the West and Osama bin Laden. The group likened Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the duo behind the irreverent program, to Theo van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker murdered by an Islamic militant in 2004.   Abu Talhah Al-Amrikee wrote in a blog post : “We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid, and they will probably wind up like Theo van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.” The posting showed a gruesome picture of Theo Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was shot and stabbed to death in an Amsterdam street in 2004 by a fanatic angered by his film about Muslim women. In 2006, Comedy Central banned Trey Parker and Matt Stone, from showing an image of Muhammad on their show.  So naturally last week’s hilarious 200th episode, celebrated many of the personalities and groups that Parker and Stone insulted during the series’ run.  Of course episode 201, implicitly addressed the controversy that arose from last week’s plot and went back to referring to the Muslim prophet Muhammad,as a BLEEP sound when the name was spoken, and as a blocked-out image labeled CENSORED.
