(HMG) – Rachel Weisz doesn’t need any help getting good parts to play, but still it doesn’t hurt that her her new role will be directed and produced by her fiance Darren Aronofsky.  Weisz is set to play former First Lady Jackie Kennedy in Jackie, which follows the events of the first days following President Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. Aronofsky’s company Protozoa Pictures is developing along with Scott Franklin.  The script had been rumored as a Steven Spielberg-produced telefilm for HBO, but Spielberg is not involved in any way, though according to Entertainment Weekly his agency, CAA, has put together the package that they are now shopping to the major studios.

Jackie was written by Noah Oppenheim, head of development at television production company Reveille, over a period of nights and weekends.  The story documents the four days between Kennedy’s assassination and his burial, and shows the iconic first lady “at both her most vulnerable and her most graceful”.  Aronofsky last directed Rachel in 2006 sci-fi love story The Fountain, with Hugh Jackman, which received mixed reviews.  Aronofsky and Weisz have been together since 2002 and have a three-year-old son, Henry.
