Kenny Chesney tells Oprah of Marriage with Renee Zellweger ‘I Panicked’

[HMG] – When country star Kenny Chesney met Renee Zellweger in 2005 it was love at first sight. They married in  May, seemed blissfully happy…then crashed in divorced in four months. And on Friday Oprah Winfrey got Kenny to tell us all why.

“I panicked,” he told Oprah. “I look at my life as a box … I put everything in — learn how to play guitar, friends I made…and that box grew into this wonderful house, and you protect everything that helped you build that house.”

So where, Oprah asked, was the marriage to Renee?

“It was out of the box!” Ken replied with a hysterical laugh. “It’s tough; It really is. And she’s a sweet soul, but I just wasn’t ready. This is the first time I’ve talked about it, but that’s what happened. I just wasn’t ready.”

Ken, 42, then said he still hopes to get married for real, but “I felt the idea of marriage made me lose my identity. I just don’t know that I’ve found anyone bigger than that.”

But Kenny has plans to make this happen – He’s been dating 24-year old former “Miss Tennessee,” Amy Colley, since 2008 and admits he hasn’t “felt this content in a long time,” and that Amy’s the reason he now tours a lot less than when Renee was around.

His schedule, however, makes such plans a real challenge — Five Billboard #1 albums mean his fans want to see the real thing, and Kenny spends more than half of each year on the road — which takes its toll…

“Someone said, ‘You sure give a lot of your life to this.’ And I said, ‘No, this is my life.’ And that’s gotta change. But it’s not like I’m taking a year off to get married again. I want to put myself in a position to have a real relationship in my life.”
